The Power of the Fans: Custom Figure and Diorama Edition - February 20, 2013 http://bit.ly/UJghZI Hello Star Wars fans, this is GLJossan, welcome to this edition of The Power of the Fans: Custom Figure and Diorama edition!
Hey guys! Sorry I took so long to get this out, but I think the wait was worth it! I have some 6 inch customs, an awesome Dio and a whole lot of awesome! Tell me what you think of this, as well as shove some of your own work at me on Twitter @PoweroftheFans or E-Mail me at FGJossan@gmail.com
First up we got this AMAZING 6 inch Luke Skywalker from Return of the Jedi, it’s by one of my favorite customizors over at The Fwoosh. I know I couldn’t have done this better, the head is dead on, I think I read in his thread that he shrunk a sideshow mold. I hope we get a black series Luke similar to this, it’s my favorite look for Luke. 6 inch RotJ Luke Skywalker by Lestat on The FwooshSource
Here is probably the coolest Diorama I have ever seen, this thing made me want to make one, Hoth was always my favorite settings and this is just done so beautifully, I really want to see it with figures and blaster bolts flying! Hoth Diorama by Wbobafett on Rebel ScumSource
Just a bit of a repaint, but this gave it a lot more life than was given to it by Hasbro and I like that, not to knock Hasbro either, I love those guys, they are great, just this really stands out big time! They look like real metals on his armor that have been dirtied up a bit, also has some nice detail work that brings out the sculpt more. Durge by KeepitClean on The Imperial ShipyardsSource
Master K’kruhk, not familiar with this character in the least, but I see him everywhere and it’s really cool to see him in plastic form and to be done so well, I can’t see any flaws in him; everything just looks right from the hands to the lower legs and feet. Superb job! Master K’kruhk by Stronox on The Imperial ShipyardsSource
Okay, here is the last one, another by Lestat and another two 6 inch figures, Luke Skywalker and Mara Jade, completely awesome, if I were able to do the head of the Luke, I’d make this exact Luke my self, just an awesome awesome figure and the Mara Jade, oh such a cool thing to see, I hope we can get some awesome stuff like this in the black series my the Star Wars toy gods at Hasbro give us some really good stuff, pleeease! Anyway I should seriously stop harping on the black series… But yeah, these customs are my top picks for this set, it was a hard decision between this and the Hoth Diorama, SUCH a close choice too, but I thought people would like this one more so here it is! 6 inch Luke Skywalker and Mara Jade by Lestat on The FwooshSource
Well, that’s everything, hope you guys and gals satisfied, it sadly seems Star Wars customs were slow lately, which is disappointing. BUT, this is why I ask for the help, customs need to be found, and need to be given their time in the light, so please…
As always…
I’d appreciate some help and guidance on where to go and things I should see that may deserve a posting, E-Mail me a link at FGJossan@gmail.com or tweet me @PoweroftheFans with #ThePoweroftheFans and it will probably see it’s day in the sun. Doesn’t matter if it’s by you, a friend, or a complete stranger who makes things you like. Just make sure it links to the customizer’s/art’s post/site/submission, as I would prefer to credit the customizer/artist.

Hasbro Unveils Star Wars Six Inch ‘Black Series’ Figures. Thoughts? http://bit.ly/127E6xm

Well the rumors were flying around for years of a six inch line and now here we are! A surprisingly mature targeted line and packaging here. Classic, simple and aiming just at the in between Hot Toys and 3.3/4 Line.  USA Today get the story;
"Star Wars action figures are growing up with their audience.
After 35 years of fantastic plastic standing tall in pop culture at 3¾ inches, Hasbro is releasing the Star Wars Black Series this year, beginning a new set of 6-inch figures that will feature more articulation and an increased attention to detail.

Priced at $19.99 each, eight figures are planned for 2013 — Hasbro will primarily draw characters from the original Star Wars trilogy of films while also bringing in key players from the prequels.

The first wave of four, due out in early to mid-August, includes Luke Skywalker in his X-Wing Fighter flight suit, fan-favorite droid R2-D2, bad guy Darth Maul and an Imperial Sandtrooper.

"We consider them the best figures that Hasbro’s ever produced for Star Wars that meets the sensibilities of romancing the character as well as the playability and poseability that fans really appreciate," says Derryl DePriest, Hasbro vice president of boys marketing.
Hasbro has had success with the scale before with the 6-inch Marvel Legends figures based on Marvel Comics heroes and villains. In terms of Star Wars, though, the Black Series will act as a transitional point between the 3¾-inch toys — “which is rooted in the childhood memories of generations of now-grown kids,” DePriest says — and the 12-inch Sideshow Collectibles figures for adult collectors.

The current “vintage”-style line of 3¾ figures will also continue under the Black Series banner.

In creating something new and different with Star Wars, the color black became an inspiration for toy designers, DePriest says. “It’s one of the main colors of Star Wars all the way back to the beginning, and it’s the approach that Lucasfilm has taken with their collector-oriented product line. We’re bringing that simplicity and essence and focus on the character now to the toy aisle.”

The Black Series appeals to those newbies who want to start a series from the start as well as those hardcore collectors who gobble up anything having to do with the words “Jedi” or “Empire” and “are looking for something new and their interest isn’t as piqued by the 15th cantina alien we have yet to do,” DePriest says. “We realize folks want their iconic characters delivered up in a new way.”

With Star Wars: Episode VII coming from new Star Wars director J.J. Abrams in a couple of years, as well as comics, novels and other media adding to the universe George Lucas started in 1977, it’s a good time to figure out different scales and toys for the next generation of Star Wars fan, according to DePriest.

Before then, however, the Black Series also gives a chance for parents to connect with their own little Star Wars fans.

"Our focus here is the adult collector, the dad," DePriest says. "We know they have their own generation of youngsters they like to share the adventure with. It can be something for dad, and the 3¾ world can be something for the kids to share." "

Wow… well what’s your thoughts, collecting this or not? Good bad, perfectly targeted? To me this is like a great hybrid of the 30th Anniversary collection and Marvel legends. Sound off in the comments and let us know! Related Fly Posts

The Power of the Fans: Custom Figure and Diorama Edition - January 18, 2013 http://bit.ly/UBVmp1 Hello Star Wars fans, this is GLJossan, welcome to the first edition of The Power of the Fans: Custom Figure and Diorama edition!
Sadly this article is a bit more empty than I wanted, but that’s going to happen from time to time, customs can be slow and with out people helping me out on Twitter or sending my E-Mails, it hurts it, but any way onto the customs!
First up, this is probably more most original of the creations I’ve found, on the internet outside of dioramas. This had to have had more blood sweat and tears put into it than most customs. Hand-carved wooden figures and land speeder by Hockey_History on Rebel ScumSource
Here is a diorama of Mos Eisley, it was pretty cool, I’ve been trying to make something of my own like it, though my is much less elaborate. But, this thing is great, the scene on it looks pretty awesome too, you have the used droid dealer, the Sandtroopers, it’s all just awesome. Mos Eisley Diorama by BlackThorne on The Imperial ShipyardsSource
Hasbro! Take some notes here, I would LOVE a figure just like this to be made, sure it’s not exactly completely accurate to the cartoon, but that’s not always a bad thing, I want a “realistic” version of Cad Bane. (as well as that Rex that got canceled.) Non-Cartoon style Cad Bane by JetpackBlues on The Imperial ShipyardsSource
Okay this was a neat stumble, Here is a bit of a collection of figures, based on World War2 and the 1940s, you have Darth Vader, Tarkin, a Stormtrooper and a Snowtrooper. They seem to have had thought put into them, and are pretty awesome, my personal favorite would be the Snowtrooper. I came across the Snowtrooper first and thought it was awesome and then noticed the Stormtrooper in the picture as well, causing me to search out the others. World War 2/1940s Star Wars by JetpackBlues on The Imperial ShipyardsSource
Awesome figure, at first I thought it was an original character, but came to find out it was a character from KOTR 2, this one is quite exceptional, I couldn’t even tell you the base figure used for it. (Than again I’m also not that well versed with the figures off the top of my head.) The paint applications are perfect, I think I’m in love with this custom, it’s pretty awesome. Another neat detail by the customizer, each robe layer gets darker, the outer cloak is a medium grey, the inner is a darker grey, and the turleneck like piece coming from under the inner robe is black. Darth Traya by Stronox on The Imperial ShipyardsSource
Well, that’s everything, hope you guys and gals satisfied, it sadly seems Star Wars customs were slow these passed two weeks, which is disappointing that this is all I could get. BUT, this is why I ask for the help, customs need to be found, and need to be given their time in the lite, so please…

Well, that’s everything, hope you guys and gals satisfied, it sadly seems Star Wars customs were slow these passed two weeks, which is disappointing that this is all I could get. BUT, this is why I ask for the help, customs need to be found, and need to be given their time in the lite, so please…

Thanks guys,
GLJossan.

First we have a pretty interesting piece of art based on recent pop culture with a geek twist which includes one of the big Star Wars fan favorites; Boba Fett as well as another fan favorite from Marvel with just as big a following; Deadpool. Fett Pool Style! by HeroforPain on Deviant ArtSource
Next up is a character sheet for someone’s original fan character named Isa Cortess. I’ll be honest with everyone, I’m a sucker for fan made characters. But on top of that the character sheet is pretty cool. Character Sheet - Isa Cortess by LittleMissWiseass on Deviant ArtSource
So, tell me, what’s cooler than propaganda art? What’s cooler than Boba Fett? I’ll tell you what, propaganda art featuring Boba Fett, that’s what! I mean honestly, this picture just screams bad ass. Fett’s Boba - Boba Fett Star Wars Propaganda Art by HalHefnerART on Deviant ArtSource

This one is pretty awesome, I saw the thumb nail and thought ‘hmm pretty cool looking black and white picture.’ only to click it and find out it was done entirely with pen, this fact just totally blew my mind away completely. imperial sprawl by kennybrann on Deviant ArtSource
Here is one of my favorites from the post, it’s digitally done, but it looks like water colors, it has such a nice effect and just looks all around really awesome, I couldn’t not put it up here. And on top of it all, this picture has something all the others so far lack, a sense of life, by her expression, the fact that there is snow that looks to be moving and the fact you can see the mist that her breath makes, just gives the whole picture a life of it’s own. It’s Beyond a clonetrooper, it’s Beyond The god damn Batman, it’s a Batman Beyond Clonetrooper?! Considering I’m working on a Flyguy trooper custom, I shouldn’t really judge the theme, either way though, it’s pretty awesome. Batman Beyond/Clone Trooper by JonBolerjack On Deviant ArtSource
Did you know Indiana Jones and Han Solo met in the Expanded Universe, though sadly it’s not the way you mite think and thankfully, it’s a non-canon story, it’s an interesting story, it’s in comic book Star Wars Tales #19. Give it, a read, it shows just about how long ago The Battle of Yavin was compared to our time, the The Battle of Yavin was somewhere in 1800-1820, so when they say a long time ago, they really do mean it.
Anyway I should talk about the art now, it’s pretty cool a sketch with marker work, no color to it, but doesn’t really need it, it’s just cool all around. Indy and Han Sketchcard by stratosmacca On Deviant ArtSource
Here is something I like, it’s an original take on Darth Vader, I really don’t recall seeing original takes very often and this is one that I really like, usually when something like this is uncommon, I’ll be brutally honest, they usually are horrible when you come across them, so this is refreshing. Okay here is the finale, this one is pretty cool, I stumbled onto some gold on Deviant Art, an artist working for LucasFILMS and Topps Trading Cards, when I first came across them, I thought they were just come cool pieces that was a part of a collection, it wasn’t until I read their description that I found out they were for Trading cards!

Star Tots was originally an unproduced Kenner younger kids toy concept from 1978 approx1.75”. Now revived and coming to Celebration VI.

There are 20 different Star Tots in the set and each flat character is made of high-quality diecast metal with hard-enamel coloring. Creative packaging puts each Star Tot in its own environment, featuring original backgrounds by artist Jason Peltz.

Building on the past success of trading card, medallion, and parody cereal box giveaways, the Star Tots are a limited-edition exclusive available only to attendees of the Collecting Track presentations. A different Star Tot character will be given away at each presentation over the course of the four-day convention.
